Giving Back
Dr. Garrett feels very strongly about giving back to the local and world communities
Local efforts:
For 13 years, Dr. Garrett volunteered as a science teacher every Friday at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, teaching Kindergarten through 5th grade. He has been named Volunteer of the Year by the Novato School District.
Dr. Garrett and his wife Debra, also our lead hygienist, have previously worked with MAWS (Marin Abused Woman’s Shelter) on weekends and holidays to provide dental care for women and children in need.
Dr. Garrett and Debra have worked at community clinics in Santa Rosa assessing patients’ dental needs, providing cleanings and performing pediatric dentistry for the underserved communities of Sonoma County.
Currently Dr. Garrett is volunteering as a contact tracer with Marin County Health and Human Services each weekend to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
volunteering Abroad:
Dr. Garrett went on three separate dental missions to Mexico with the Flying Doctors organization.
In 2006, Dr. Garrett and Debra were invited to join the Santa Rosa Rotary Club on a dental Mission to Vietnam serving the abandoned elderly at a Buddhist temple as well as children at a Christian orphanage in Saigon/Ho Chi Min city.
Faith in Practice asked Dr. Garrett to come with them to Antigua, Guatemala on three separate trips to volunteer his dental services to the poor who don’t have access.
